Operational governance skill levels

Apprentice

Carries out operational governance activities such as routine checks, validating compliance with publishing standards, and reviewing content quality within assigned areas. Escalates non-compliance, missing ownership, or outdated content to appropriate stakeholders. Understands the basics of governance processes and how they apply to day-to-day digital workplace operations.

Practitioner

Implements and maintains governance processes across multiple sites, channels, or platforms. Ensures standards, roles, and responsibilities are followed by content owners and product teams. Monitors adherence to publishing models, manages compliance exceptions, and resolves routine governance issues. Coordinates with platform and content stakeholders to maintain accuracy, ownership, and operational consistency across the digital workplace.

Master

Oversees and stewards operational governance across the entire digital ecosystem. Designs and evolves governance processes to maintain coherence, compliance, and accountability at scale. Establishes frameworks for content lifecycle, ownership, metadata integrity, and corpus quality across platforms, including AI-enabled systems where retrieval and accuracy depend on consistent operational discipline. Intervenes to resolve cross-platform governance failures, address systemic issues, and ensure that the organisation's digital estate remains controlled, current, and trustworthy.
